Soul Context

A space for soul expression and other things

About

Soul Context is a space where seekers of any type can feel less alone and more at home.

I didn’t feel like I had much of a choice about starting this site. It’s been pushing at the seams of my soul for a while, waiting to burst into the world.

(Hello, world.)

Although on a deeper level I believe in the oneness of reality – that everything is ultimately an expression of G-d’s will – we currently live in an obscure world of dualities.

And in such a world there are a few choices:

We can ricochet between the material and spiritual, resulting in a life of chaos and disconnection.

Or we can mute our souls, dim our light and live for material, worldly goals – succumbing to the voice of the body and ego over the soul.

Or we can ignore the body, discounting the material, focusing solely on the soul, idealizing asceticism.

But there is another choice. A choice that fuses the spiritual and the material, body and soul. Every moment, every challenge, every decision we make offers us the opportunity to elevate the physical. We can choose to see life in soul context, generating pockets of paradise here on earth. In those moments we glimpse the truer reality of ultimate oneness, harmony and wholeness.

When we see life in a spiritual, soul context, we are free to embrace the fullness and totality of being human. Because it is in this world where we can take concrete steps to elevate through thought and action – transforming mundane experiences into opportunities for soul growth.

Judaism is about living this final approach – and it’s an approach available to everyone.

I’m not going to pretend to live fully there. Not here and not in my blog. I vacillate between all of the above, as I suspect many people do. But it’s what I strive towards.

(Part of the beauty in this approach is that it allows for this very vacillation – every aspect of a person’s experiences can be explored and elevated on the path towards wholeness.)

It’s a journey full of ups and downs, and I know every person is on their own journey.

It’s my hope that reading Soul Context will give you food for thought, propelling you forward on your journey towards spiritual growth while helping you feel less alone.

About Me

I’m a rather private person who also has a burning need for self-expression.

Nevertheless, it’s probably useful for readers to know that I am a Torah observant Jew and I love being Jewish. While my blog is going to be a reflection of my personal journey (and not Judaism in particular) I do constantly draw upon traditional Jewish sources for wisdom offering guidance and encouragement on my journey. It’s a wisdom with universal relevance, and I hope my writing resonates with you regardless of who you are or where you’re at.
